On this past Friday’s Tavis Smiley Show, Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez recommends another American Empire Project book. This time it is Empire’s Workshop by Greg Grandin. Although this segment was not aired, it can be viewed in the extended interview on the Tavis Smiley website. This is the transcript of what was said:
Hugo Chávez: Another book by another Brazilian friend Greg Grandin, Empire’s Workshop, Latin America, the United States and the Rise of the New Imperialism. (holds up book)
Tavis Smiley: You know the last time you did this at the UN the other day with Noam Chomsky’s book, it was like number 72 on the bestseller list after you did that it jumped up into the top 10, so I’m sure that Mr. Grandin appreciates that. As a matter of fact I have a book that I’d like you to hold up that I’m writing.
Hugo Chávez: Give it to me; it can be a good promotion for you. I love to show books, especially those that I consider good books. I’ve just met the author, I’ve been talking to him. He’s going to Venezuala very soon. If this is a response to your question, what is going on in Latin America precisely. Chomsky’s books, I read them enormously and the most recent, Hegemony and Survival is an excellent book. Chomsky is a master of words.
