Tom- As a professional science fiction writer who's done my share of scenarios, I found your article fascinating, and on-target. It's been said that nothing dates faster than predictions of the future, and I suppose that's all the more the case when one's doing those predictions by committee, as you note. I think you're also right in asserting that these planners barely understand the present--and that they're bound up in what's essentially a religious faith, namely that the U.S. will/must retain its pre-eminent place in the sun forever (in stark contrast to every other "top dog" empire). Exceptionalism indeed. Nice job.
