Tom,
This is truly an honest and insightful appraisal of the probable legacy of bin Laden and his proverbial ghost. Your long time friend and confidant, Dr. Chalmers Johnson, would, I suspect, be proud to associate himself with all you have said herein; speaking for myself, I am in complete agreement on this matter.

On a more somber note, why do you suppose that so few, for lack of a better term, Progressives, choose to weigh in as voices of reason in response to this commentary? The fringe fanatics, both left and right, seem to be becoming more prevalent on more and more discussion venues, and typically have little or nothing to say regarding the substance of what they are ostensibly replying to. It appears that we need to figure out a way to keep the weeds from obscuring the garden of reasonable and informative dialog, if viable information and reason is to ever triumph over serial nonsense.

What an absolutely brilliant piece! The late Chalmers Johnson would indeed be proud. I'm starting to think that it is too late for the republic, that now we're so far down the path of empire there's no going back!
